Hi!

I’m Selena, a Marine and Conservation Biology student at Seattle University. I’m passionate about marine ecosystems and the organisms that call them home, with a special love for coral reef ecology/physiology. My academic pursuits have included research on seagrass and bull kelp habitats in the Puget Sound, as well as species delimitation in a cryptic species complex of tropical snapping shrimp. I love research, both in the field and in the lab! I'm an aspiring marine habitat ecology researcher.

Outside of the classroom, I work as the Digital Media Manager and Assistant Store Manager at Barrier Reef Aquariums, where I oversee animal husbandry, aquarium maintenance, and e-commerce website/social media content. I am the store’s primary photographer, which means I get to stare at gorgeous corals all day every day! I’ve kept personal saltwater aquariums for over a decade and have a special interest in promoting sustainability within the reefkeeping hobby through aquaculture and education.

When I’m not studying or working, you’ll probably find me diving in the cold waters of the Pacific Northwest, tending to my personal reef tanks, or planning my next ocean adventure. My ultimate goal is to contribute to marine conservation efforts by expanding our knowledge of marine habitats - however that may be!
