Cryptic Species Delimitation in the Snapping Shrimp Complex Synalpheus tumidomanus
 Collaborators: Dr. Kristin Hultgren

Western Society of Naturalists Annual Conference
November 2024

  • Used species delimitation techniques to construct a phylogeny of cryptic snapping shrimp species.

  • Analyzed program-generated phylogenetic tree to make inferences about modes of speciation within the species complex.

  • Collected field data on bull kelp bed dimensions, morphometrics, and health indicators.

  • Took note of environmental conditions that may impact kelp bed characteristics.

  • Surveyed Kelp Crabs inhabiting the beds and took morphometric data.

  • Contributed to the establishment of a long-term bull kelp monitoring initiative.

Puget Sound Seagrass Bed Survey and Monitoring
Collaborators: Dr. Thomas Pool, Dr. Kristin Hultgren, The Vashon Nature Center, WA Department of Natural Resources

  • Conducted field sampling of Zostera marina and Zostera japonica, collecting qualitative and quantitative data for habitat analysis.

  • Assessed seagrass bed biodiversity using techniques such as seining and snorkel surveys.
